RTÉ News

I worked as a staff Interactive News Journalist with RTÉ, Ireland’s largest TV and radio network, from 2003 to 2009.

My primary task was to generate news content by developing stories using live updates from the broadcast newsroom and from international news wires.

I wrote around a dozen national and international news stories a day for RTÉ.ie/news (pictured above) and teletext service RTÉ Aertel News (pictured right), usually working 7am to 2pm.

I also web-produced audio and video content for live streaming, on-demand and podcasts for top shows including RTÉ Radio’s Morning Ireland (pictured below left) and the Six One television news.

During my time at RTÉ, the news site won the Irish national internet award (Golden Spider) for Best Media Site three years running.

I also co-produced the Election 2007 website which gained more than 25 million page views, then a national record.

As well as writing news stories and producing audiovisual web content, I was also involved in maintaining special content and news highlights sections as well as updating some weather and travel pages.

I was also directly responsible for the intercultural subsite  RTÉ.ie/Diversity, for which I received a Certificate for Initiative and Achievement at the Media & Multicultural Awards in 2009.
